CERRO CHATO EXTREME HIKE
Cerro Chato is a dormant stratovolcano located southeast of very active Volcan Arenal. It stands roughly 3742 feet or 1140m tall. Cerro Chato is actually the older brother of Volcan Arenal. It erupted about 38000 years ago but had no activity in the last 3500 years, which is right around the time Arenal was born. Cerro Chato is located in the rainforest in the northwestern part of Costa Rica. It is part of the Guanacaste Cordillera range, which belongs to the southern Continental Divide. Cerro Chato extreme hike is an intense 4 to 5 hour round trip hike through steep jungle terrain. This hike heads up the Crater to the rim where if weather permitting you can hike/climb down into the crater where you will find a green blue lagoon
Descending you will hike down the opposite side of the mountain, enjoying views of the flatlands until reaching the La Fortuna Waterfall. Here you'll be able to enjoy a swim in the river at the base of the fall
